A Tribute to Law Enforcement
"A Call To Arms "
by Catherine R. DeFeo
So gallantly he marches forth upon his "motorized" steed
To him it is a daily task to do a noble deed
With family at home and dinner on the table, his children wait for him to come home and play
His wife might not always show it, but while he works, her mind is in dismay
The scum of the earth is his rival, it effects his every move his course
Racing to the aid of the innocent, dealing with their death in silent remorse
Coping and struggling with the evil of society is an everyday thing for him
Always needed and depended on, to service your every whim
Yet criticized and badgered, deserving more respect, just trying to make this world a better place
Our children look up to him when they are lost, a drug addict spits in his face
For many hours in his day he is so many things: a paramedic, lawyer, babysitter, peace keeper and more
This is his job, his life, there is little he hasn't seen before
No "Round Table" to meet at, with a feast and maidens dancing fair
Just a modest home with his happy children waiting for daddy to join them there
But he moves on through darkness, and he is open to danger
As he tries to protect someone in need, and his life is cut short by a worthless stranger
So gallantly he left, through his act of chivalry
Rewarded beyond the grave for this one last act of bravery
The ghostly knights that once protected us here watch over those they love each day
Fallen warriors in this battle over crime and hate, "Will this war ever end?" No one can really say
To serve & protect is what he set forth to do, he was out there keeping watch while we slept
The morning paper announced his fate and a photo taken of his family while they wept
To my friends that are the "Knights" of today, know that you are appreciated and admired very much
For all of those that make your day rough, there are many more whose hearts you touch.
